On Saturday, April 1, more than 50 people gathered at Diocesan House to hear from The Rev. Will Hood, rector of St. Paul’s, Lakeview (New Orleans), our partner parish in the We Will Stand With You Campaign.  Will gave us a first hand update on the rebuilding efforts and pressing needs for sustaining and capital funds.  He was an outstanding speaker and was most appreciative of our efforts, particularly just the fact that we care and are willing to offer support.  We now have 52 churches in our diocese who have signed on as wanting to support these efforts.

At the present time we already have $22,000 given or pledged by those present on April 1, plus a $5,000 check given to Will from Christ Church, Tacoma, where he preached on April 2^nd.  This is an outstanding start to meeting our overall five-year campaign goal to raise $500,000 ($100,000 a year with the first portion committed by January, 2007) to help St. Paul’s.  Thank you to all of you, both churches and individuals for this fine showing.

A (WWSWY) Fundraising Committee is being formed, with a dozen volunteers already.  The first meeting of this committee will take place May 11, Thursday, at 4 p.m. at Diocesan House, with staff support from Carl Knirk and the stewardship/planned giving office.  If you are interested in attending this first meeting and serving on the committee, please email Carl at cknirk@ecww.org.  This committee will be working on ways to support congregations in their individual efforts as well as how the diocese as a whole might organize one or two major efforts annually.   We welcome suggestions and ideas from anyone.  The Rev. Will Hood has been invited by Bishop Warner to be with us at Diocesan Convention in October. 

We were reminded at the April 1 meeting by David Baylor, ERD volunteer for our diocese, that over $800,000 from our diocese was given to ERD last year for Katrina relief.  We are a diocese of great abundance, raising $500,000 for our brothers and sisters at St. Paul will be fun and we look forward to forging deep relationships with the members and mission of this congregation.  Blessings and thanks to all for your support of the We Will Stand With You Campaign.
